Meziboří – reconstruction of a bridge with use of an UHPFRC over-lay of abutments

The bridge over a creek is placed in an urbanized area. To prevent complete demolitions of abutments, extensive excavations, temporary supporting or relocations of cables and pipes, transport of large volume of materials etc. during construction, existing abutments were maintained and used as lining of the construction pit. To achieve the needed resistance of abutments, cast-in-situ over-lays were made on their face, using UHPFRC (ultra high performace fibre reinforced concrete), which has excellent mechanical properties as well as durability and resistance against aggressivness of the surrounding environment. Thanks to the high strength of the material, thickness of the over-lay is quite small (75 to 150 mm) – that is why an original ribbed arrangement of the over-lay was used. In the same time, this was the first use of a cast-in-situ UHPFRC over-lay in the Czech republic. On abutments strengthened by this way, new cast-in-situ reinforced concrete half-frame superstructure was manufactured.
Dimensions of the bridge are quite small – its clear width is only 2,05 m, but such a solution can be used for structures of practically any size.
General designer of the whole reconstruction project was Projektyss Ltd. –  Miloslav Kovač, designer of the bridge was Roman Šafář. Supplier of the UHPFRC was TBG Metrostav Ltd. – Robert Coufal.
Design 2019 to 2020, construction 2021.
